Transportation
In enclosed underground transport areas, fumes can produce deadly toxins, so the transport industry is demanding a ban on all materials that emit harmful chemicals when burned. The banned materials include a variety of thermoplastics, which are highly flammable and emit toxic fumes. Unlike these materials, bulk molding compounds (BMC) and sheet molding compounds (SMC) have high flame retardancy values and meet UL94-5V requirements. In addition, the low toxic smoke emission levels of thermoset materials are the reason why they are accepted in a closed transportation environment. Many transport systems are powered by live "electric rails", I .e. high-voltage rods mounted on either side of the track. Because of their high dielectric properties, thermoset materials are widely used in the production of electrical rail insulators and canopies.
