Bulk molding compound (BMC) and sheet molding compound (SMC) are used in the manufacture of xenon lamp HID lighting fixtures because they can withstand the high temperatures that the fixture has to withstand. Traditional polished metal components need to be equipped with a separately manufactured wiring board, and thermosetting materials simplify this process for manufacturers, allowing them to directly mold the wiring board into the lamp without secondary work. With zero shrinkage, both molding compounds can be molded into the lamp shape.
