Thermosetting composites, sheet moulding compounds and structural thermosetting compounds
IDI ETI's thermoset composites, or thermoset molding compounds, are lightweight and high strength, and are molded with better strength/weight ratios of high performance composites. These composites are also corrosion-resistant, creep-resistant, and exhibit superior thermal properties compared to engineering thermoplastic-based products and metals.
Thermosetting composite materials include Bulk Molding Compound (BMC) and Sheet Molding Compound (SMC), which are provided according to customer requirements. IDI ETI can also provide composite materials with special components for the most demanding application environments, such as military and aerospace, transportation, security, medical, power, oil and gas, alternative energy and marine. All of our thermosetting molding compounds are custom-made, and the performance and specification requirements you provide us require close collaboration between us. The "off-the-shelf" products on our product line are customized to meet the specific needs of customers.
IDI International Composites has production sites in multiple locations around the world to meet response time-sensitive customer requirements.

What is the formulation of customized thermoset composites™What?
Formulated custom thermoset composites for high performance applications
Formulated high-performance thermoset composites are distinguished from standard SMC and BMC by the use of more specialized resins combined with higher performance grades of reinforcement (glass fiber, carbon fiber, aramid fiber, etc.), resulting in fiber-reinforced composites that meet unique performance requirements.
Formulated thermoset composites can significantly improve product design, ease of manufacture and durability, leading many design engineers and mold manufacturers to design their products using formulated thermoset SMC and BMC. The fiber-reinforced polymer and cross-linked molecules in the thermoset composite component give the product many advantages over metals and thermoplastics, higher strength per unit weight, better dimensional stability and corrosion resistance, greater design flexibility, and lower overall cost.

What is BMC / SMC?
Thermosetting Composites (BMC)
Bulk molding compound (BMC) is a thermoset composite material in which various inert fillers, fibrous reinforcements, catalysts, stabilizers, pigments, etc. are mixed to form an adhesive "putty" composite material for compression or injection molding. Bulk molding compound (BMC) is highly filled and reinforced by short fibers, glass fiber reinforcement accounts for 10% to 30%, and the length is usually between 1/32 inch and 1/2 inch (12.5mm).
Sheet molding compound (SMC) is also composed of polyester resin, inert filler, fiber reinforcing material, catalyst, pigment and stabilizer, mold release agent and thickener. The glass fiber reinforcement is between 10% and 60%, and the glass length is slightly longer than the mass molding compound (BMC)-between 1/2 inch and 1 inch (25mm).
Sheet molding compounds (SMC) are used for compression molding and can be molded into complex shapes, usually for larger parts-high mechanical strength is required. Sheet molding compound has high mechanical properties and outstanding appearance. It is an ideal choice for automobile A- class body covering parts, high-strength electrical parts, commercial cabinets, water skis and various components.
